Overview

Special Event!! The Flower Moon on May 14th with gorgeous Dreamcatcher-inspired medals!! Located

The Flower Moon on May 14th with gorgeous Dreamcatcher-inspired medals!! Located within Osage Hills State Park (one of Oklahoma’s seven original State Parks), Flower Moon will offer distances of 4, 13.1, 26.2, and 50 (52ish) miles. Yes, the 50 mile is a bit long, but that buckle should make it worth that extra effort. Read the historical book, watch the Scorsese/DiCaprio movie (shooting on location at the park), run the trails, and collect the swag. We have so much planned for this trail run, including Fry Bread Tacos after the race! It is going to be extraordinary!!

Atmosphere!!

This race will be a bit different from most trail runs as runners of the varying distances should finish at similar times. With staggered starting times, all the runs are scheduled for the average finisher to complete the run around 6PM. This will allow us to all eat Fry Bread Tacos together and visit/party after the race.

Dog-N-Jog 5K

Date: April 25, 2020
Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am
Location: 6501 W 21st St N Wichita, KS US 67205
Running

For those unfamiliar with Dog-N-Jog, our day consists of two races!  We start early with the chip-timed 5k race.  All race participants start at the same time, travel through and around Sedgwick County Park and receive medals upon completion of the race.

Our second race begins at 9:30 and is our 1.5 mile Walk-N-Wag!  Participants may leisurely stroll through this abbreviated course or run to the finish line!  Specific Walk-N-Wag finishers medals will be awarded to these participants as they cross the finish line.

Interested in participating in both?  We have dedicated our Tail Chaser Combo to Katie Partridge- a Dog-N-Jog committee member and former Kansas Humane Society employee.  Katie excitedly added the “Tail Chaser Combo” to our race day activities last year as a way to challenge and reward participants who ran in both the 5k and 1.5 mile events!  Unfortunately, Katie passed away shortly after last years event.  We opted to keep the new addition to the schedule for her.  All participants who sign up for Katie’s Tail Chaser Combo will not only receive a 5k and 1.5 mile finisher medal, but also a 3rd Tail Chaser Combo medal!

One of the best aspects of our event is that it’s put on by a local small business (Indian Hills Animal Clinic) and 100% of all proceeds are donated to our local Kansas Humane Society!

Wichita Adaptive sports non-profit has been operating for 1 ½ years. 2018 was our first year to host track and field and we had 42 athletes participate. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover athlete equipment so many youth do not have the equipment needed in order to fully participate as they lack running prosthesis and proper wheelchairs. This event is designed to raise money to provide racing chairs and running prosthesis for those who desire to be active. Night Hawk 50K, 10M

Start date: June 26, 2021
End date: June 27, 2021
Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am
Location: Clinton State Park, Lawrence KS

The Night Hawk 50K and 10 Miler is a Running race in Lawrence, Kansas consisting of a 50K.

This 50K course consists of mostly rugged trails running through the beautiful trees, out on the white trail to Land's End (~6 1/2 miles) and returning to the Start/Finish line on the blue trail(~3 1/2 miles). This is a 3 loop course with each loop running 10.3 miles long.

Aide stations are located at Land's End and the Start/Finish Line and will have water, sports drink, gels, fruit, and sweet and salty snacks.

Alternate Course will be approximately 70% asphalt paved roads and 30% cross country type running. We apologize for the pavement but we must preserve the trails so they will be runnable again soon and hopefully we will be on the regularly scheduled course next year. The alternate course will be well marked and staffed to keep you on course.

First Aide Station is located at about 5 miles into the loop, at the intersection of 1415 Rd and 700 Road. It is located prior to entering the Loop of Ultimate Darkness cross country section. You will see it on your way out and you will pass by it again on your back to the start/finish line aid station. There are only 2 aide stations due to the looping course.

The start/finish line will have some good grub available for a post-race refueling. We will have regular, vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.

Not 4 Wimps 10K / 10 Miler / Half-Marathon

Date: February 16, 2020
Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am
Location: 321 W Market St Derby, KS US 67037

The Derby Run Club proudly presents the 28th annual Not 4 Wimps race!  We are excited to offer a repeat starting line at the Warren Riverview park!  You'll be treated to a beautiful new 1440 square foot lodge, complete with a clear view of the Arkansas River.  More trails, less street running and a few more challenges for those that accept our invitation to the N4W survivor club. You'll still be treated to home-baked goodies at the finish line, but we've stepped-up the comfort level.  You'll enjoy the lovely fireplace, and a world-class view of those still coming in off of the course. Prior survivors will assure you that the only requirements are a superior fitness level, less than optimal judgment, guts, and a desire to accomplish something that most folks just can’t do.

"No Frills" Race

This is a timed course that is marked well, but it is still a trail course!  If you don't see any course markings, you are going the wrong way!   If you are not leading the course and you come across a spider web, you may be going the wrong way!  If you get lost and tack on some extra mileage, well then you got some extra bang for your buck!  You're not going to get an age group medal, or a finishers medal, or a pretty shirt with this race.  When you get done, we have some awesome giveaways to go along with the pride of knowing that you didn't wimp out and take the shortcut back.  Feel free to also brag to your friends that you finished a challenging race in the middle of February, while everyone else is still in hibernation mode, or stuck on a treadmill wishing for some new scenery!   This race is a bargain, and we want to keep it that way!

No Shirts - But you can buy a Not 4 Wimps HOODIE for $25 . . . . . or 10 for $250!

The Derby Running Club events are proud of our "By Runners for Runners" race management and as runners, we KNOW that you probably don't need one more T-shirt, especially in February.  Those of you who DO want something warm and fun to commemorate your amazing feat may purchase (advance only) a nice-quality Guildan charcoal-grey pullover hoodie with a small chest-logo and a large back-print of the Not-4-Wimps Motto; "Sweat Dries, Blood Clots, Bones Heal . . . Suck it up Princess" on the back.  This is likely to be the first in a series that you'll want to add to your winter wardrobe!  Cut-off date to order is  one week prior to race and will be ready for you at registration.

Packet Pickup

Packet pickup will start at 11:00 am the day of the race.  Not-4 Wimps gloves and caps are available for the first 150 registered at no additional charge.  Register early, when they're gone, they're gone!  Race day registration will be available for $30.00.  If you choose to switch between race distances, simply notify registration during packet pickup.  There will be no charge for doing so, only a little bit of mockery if you move down in distance!

Join the Derby Run Club - Save money!

Want to save an extra $5.00?  Join the Derby Run Club for the low price of $25.00 for families and $20.00 for individuals.  What all benefits do you get for joining?

  • Save $5.00 on each Derby Run Club Race
  • Receive an awesome Derby Run Club T-shirt
  • Free Admission to the Annual Derby Run Club Christmas Party
  • Receive a 10% Discount at First Gear Running Company and Fleet Feet Wichita!
  • Assist the Derby Running Club in supporting the running community by funding quality equipment, certified courses, and insurance to continue our tradition of sponsor-free events designed “by runners for runners.”
  • Board Member opportunities are available for members interested in guiding the DRC into the future!

Safety

Races are limited to registered participants only. No rollerblades, bicycles, skateboards or strollers are allowed. Noncompliance will result in disqualification. Buffalo County Stampede Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Date: June 13, 2021
Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am
Location: Trails & Rails Museum Kearney, NE
Running

Sunday, June 13, 2021 • Kearney, NE • Course Map

Note: A virtual option is available for this race, to be run anytime between June 1 and June 13, 2021. Registration details are included below.

This small central southern Nebraska city — which proclaimed itself the “sandhill crane capital of the world” in 2010 thanks to the more than 500,000 sandhill crane birds that converge here in the early spring as a pitstop on their annual migration northward — plays host to the 13th annual running this year of its Buffalo County Stampede Half Marathon.

Sponsored by Kearney’s Buffalo County Historical Society, the race saw just over 170 runners cross the finish line at its 2014 running, which unfolds along the paved, eight-foot-wide pathways of the city’s Kearney Hike & Bike Trail, a 17-mile-long system of trails that wind through the city and the Platte River Valley area all around.

Runners start the loop course for the race in front of the offices of the historical society, at 710 West 11th Street, which also lies near the city’s Rails & Trails Museum.

From there, runners head west toward Yanney Heritage Park, an 80-acre park on the southwest section of the city that’s been transformed from a cornfield into a park complete with an amphitheater, gardens, children’s playground areas and a lake and wetlands preserve.

Once runners reach the park, they then turn onto the Hike & Bike Trail and head south toward the Platte River.

Runners continue on the trail as it winds along the riverbank, heading eastward with the winding river for just under two miles before turning around and heading into downtown Kearney all the way back to the finish line along West Street in front of the Rails & Trails Museum. This being Nebraska, the terrain is largely flat and paved for the entire route.

Race Weather & Climate

Nestled along the northern bank of the Platte River that winds through the southern half of the state next to Interstate 80, just over 180 miles southwest of Omaha, Kearney typically sees mild to moderately warm weather in June, when record temperatures here have fallen as low as 35°F (in 1935) and risen as high as 108°F (in 1988).

On race day (June 13), the average low is 57ºF and the average high is 80ºF
