WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? For the sixth year in a row your entire registration fee goes toward building borehole wells and providing clean water education to villages in Africa. After 5 years, we now have 17 Wichita borehole wells in Malawi, bringing abundant clean water to thousands of people every day.  This water is life. We use this precious resource many times each day without thought or effort. Yet many people around the world don’t enjoy this luxury because they don’t have easy access to water and possibly no access to clean water. Many women and children around the globe spend hours each day in search of water; their lives revolve around this task. Often the water they collect is contaminated and causes diarrhea, which is the leading cause of illness and death around the world. Many organizations are working to eradicate this problem by building safe wells in communities one village at a time. Access to clean water reduces illness and death, increases school attendance, builds gender equality, diminishes scarcity conflicts and improves impoverished communities. Yes, water is life.

Wichita Clean Water 5K is partnering with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in Africa to bring life to villages through the construction of safe wells and clean water education. This year we are raising funds to build borehole wells in African villages. Many villages try to survive by fetching water from irrigation dams. Since these dams are meant for irrigation, the water is contaminated with diesel from pipes and generators. The water in these dams are further contaminated by animals, who also use this water source. Additionally, villagers bathe, do laundry and clean utensils in this dirty water. Community members often suffer from diarrhea and other waterborne diseases. Many women and children walk over 2½ miles to collect this dirty water.

Your race entry will help bring more borehole wells and water education to even more villages. You can make a life-changing difference to a community of people by registering for the Clean Water 5K and inviting your friends to join you. Together, we can install a safe well and be a part of something much bigger than ourselves.

Course Description

Midwest Endurance Race Co brings you the first Mile 0 Trail Race of the Midwest! The Flint Hills Trail is the longest of Kansas’ 3,000-plus miles of public trails. Its history is equally impressive, and a testament to the dedication, generosity and ingenuity of a small handful of Kansans who saw the possibilities for a multi-use, destination trail. For over a century, trains traveled what’s now the Flint Hills Trail. The last train ran the line in the early 1990s. Rails and ties were soon removed. Trees and brush quickly reclaimed the pathway.

The race will be held in mid-April when the weather is typically cool and sunny, although Kansas weather can be unpredictable. Just an hour south of Kansas City you will find The Flint Hills to be a beautiful escape from the big city.

Lake McMurtry Trail Run

Date: April 9, 2022
Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am
Location: Lake McMurtry West Recreation Area
Running

Oklahoma’s Oldest Trail Run!! The race was started in 1999 by Earl Blewett. Earl saw the beauty of Lake McMurtry with its gorgeous scenery, soft, beginner friendly trail system, spectacular lake views, and reputation for having some of the best trails in the state of Oklahoma for running as well as mountain biking. In 2009 Earl turned the race over to the Tatur organization and its race director Ken Childress. Ken did a fantastic job of keeping the quality, history and tradition of the Lake McMurtry Trail Race alive. The Outlaw group began directing the run in 2019 who added their own flair, while keeping the tradition alive with the same great trails and entertaining aid stations.

We're BACK!

The annual Race for Freedom is a 5K run/walk organized by ICT S.O.S. to benefit a local organization involved in the fight against human trafficking. This year's Race for Freedom will be an IN-PERSON & virtual event on Saturday, Sept. 11 and will benefit ICT S.O.S.

ICT S.O.S. has Raised Over $200,000 for Partner Organizations

The annual race raises thousands of dollars each year for a different partner organization working with at-risk youth & adults. This year, we are excited to benefit ICT S.O.S. for our tenth anniversary of both the race and the organization!

Your participation this year helps to support advocacy services for adult survivors of trafficking and exploitation, education for youth in middle and high schools through our trafficking awareness curriculum and upcoming film, resources for professionals and survivors, and training for industries, direct service professionals, educators, volunteers and the community.

Are you ready to help us raise awareness and funding to stop human trafficking in Wichita?

We invite you to participate in this race by registering to run, walk, participate virtually or purchasing a t-shirt to create real and lasting change in our city!

2020 was no doubt a difficult year for races, including ours. Even though we had to make the gut-wrenching decision to go virtual last year, we were still able to raise over $13,000 for Rise Up for Youth! We missed our runners, walkers and volunteers desperately!

This year we feel that with about 100 back-up plans and contingencies for safety we can hold an in-person event. We'll be working closely throughout the year with the city, county, Carpenter Place, Timer Guys and our committee to make sure that we can bring you the best possible experience while still keeping everyone safe and healthy!

Be sure to watch your email and our Facebook page as well as this website for any pertinent information on Covid protocols as they change. We're hopeful that by fall our community will be back to some semblance of normal gatherings.

Until then: wash your hands, maintain a safe distance from people with cooties and do all you can to stay strong and healthy. Get some fresh air and some good training miles in. We want to see you at the starting line!

Four years ago, we hosted the first "TZ Memorial Sobriety Sprint", in hopes of honoring our friend Zach Arismendez who passed clean and sober on June 4th, 2017. It was a HUGE success! Hundreds of runners came out and we had a blast celebrating our friend. So, we chose to make this fun, family-friendly event an annual thing. If you are clean and sober, the run is a great way to celebrate that! If you’ve lost someone to addiction, the run is a great way to honor & remember them. At Hope is Alive we stand with those in sobriety and honor those we’ve lost. That’s what the Sobriety Sprint is all about! This year's race will mark our fifth “Sobriety Sprint” and the second-ever in Wichita, KS. With a new location, tons of prizes, and surprises along the course this will be an event you will NOT want to miss! All proceeds from this year's "TZ Memorial Sobriety Sprint” will go to the Hope is Alive Scholarship Fund.
