Course Description

The Prairie Spirit Trail is a beautiful "rails-to-trails" course that runs through numerous quaint little towns. Runners will do an out-and-back, beginning in Ottawa, KS and traveling south to Iola (100 milers), Welda (100Kers), Garnett (50 milers) or Richmond (50K), then, back north to the finish. The course is primarily on a crushed limestone trail, with asphalt paths as you travel through each town. Manned and unmanned aid stations will be approximately every 5 miles (with no greater distance than approximately 6 miles) and the course is easily accessible to crew. It's a great event for first timers, as it's a flat and relatively easy course. It's also the perfect course for experienced runners wanting to set a PR. The atmosphere will be family friendly with plenty of places for your crew to hang out and relax while cheering you on. Pacers will be allowed for the second half of the all events.

Aid Stations: Manned aid stations are fully-stocked with water, electrolyte drink & snack-type foods, including soup & sandwiches, unmanned aid stations with water only. Approximate distance between aid stations is 5 miles with no distance greater than a little over 9 miles between manned aid stations, all manned aid stations will have drop bag access..

The following link will open up a Google Map, showing the locations of the Start/Finish (Celebration Hall) and all six manned aid stations/crew access & drop bag points located in Princeton, Richmond (50K t/a), Garnett (50 mile t/a), Welda (100K t/a), Colony & Iola (100 mile t/a). Unmanned (water only) aid stations are also show on map.

Go Green Leprechaun Run 10K and 2 Mile

Location: Dyck Arboretum of the Plains 177 W Hickory Hesston, KS US 67062
Running

Description

81K FITNESS CHALLENGE - February 16 to March 16, 2024
2 MILE and 10K LEPRECHAUN RUN - March 16, 2024

Are you ready for a new fitness goal? In the month leading up to our annual Leprechaun Run, we want to offer a fitness challenge to kick-start your 2024 fitness goals and get you in peak shape to Go Green on March 16!

We think 81k is a nice target number. Dyck Arboretum of the Plains was founded in 1981 and Hesston is located on Highway 81. Eighty-one kilometers in 30 days amounts to 2.7 km/day (equal to 1.7 miles/day and 12 miles per week).

Do you want to do more? Set your sights higher and make it 81 miles. Approximately 6,100 walking steps/day would help you meet that challenge. If you can get into 10K running shape by February, running three 10Ks (6.2 miles each) per week would about get you to 81 miles.
Track your progress on our distance leader board to see how others are faring along with you. Plan to READY, SET, GO 81 in the new year - you can do it!

Runners continuing on their own accord past the cutoffs, and not arriving at the Start/Finish on or before the 6pm cutoff, will not be eligible for the finisher awards.

Deferment Policy

Seeing you cross the finish line is the reason we host this race. If you’ve signed up for one of the events, but are unable to safely participate in the Hawk race, we offer the following options.

CHANGING DISTANCE PRIOR TO THE RACE
Runners may contact the Race Director and transfer to a lower or a higher distance on or before February 10th. In the event a runner transfers to a higher distance, a pro-rata charge will apply. No credit or refund can be given for runners transferring to a lower-distance race. You can also "EDIT" your registration on Ultrasignup and change the distance yourself; in the event you upgrade the distance the system will generate a code and prompt you to re-register for the new distance. If a race distance is SOLD OUT, you will not be able to change to the sold out distance.

The Pi Day River Rotation Race Series does not allow refunds or for the runners to transfer entries to other participants. NO Transfer Permitted: Race numbers and official participant bibs are assigned by the Race Director to each specific participant and may not be transferred, reproduced, replicated, or modified under any circumstance. You may not: 1) give or sell your number or tag to another person; 2) receive or purchase a number or tag from another person; 3) modify, make copies or other reproductions/replications of your number or bib for any purpose (or allow another to do so); and/or 4) participate with an unofficial race number or bib (i.e., a number or bib that was not assigned to you by the Race Director).
Attempting to do any of the foregoing is also prohibited and any person found violating these rules will be subject to penalties, including but not limited to disqualification and suspension from subsequent Hawk Hundred events.

DROPPING DISTANCE ON RACE DAY
If you drop to a different distance on race day will receive that distance's finisher award, if available. YOU MUST DROP AT THAT MILEAGE, IF YOU CONTINUE PAST AND DROP LATER YOU WILL BE RECORDED AS A DNF FOR THAT RACE DISTANCE. However, they are not eligible for the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place awards of that distance.

DEFERRAL
Runners may defer their race entries to the following year, by notifying the Race Director on or before February 10th. Deferral will NOT be permitted for any runner making a request less than 30 days before the scheduled event. The race Deferral is good for one year only. Requests for deferral must be submitted in writing to the Race Director; given the press of other preparations, runners should make sure their request has been confirmed. The deferral code must be obtained from the Race Director and used within the first 45 days of the next year’s race registration.

DID NOT START
If you can’t attend, and haven’t deferred, please let the Race Director know at least seven days before the race, so your name can be removed from the starters list. You also have the option to remove yourself from the race on Ultrasignup. If you don’t show up, and don’t let us know in advance that you can’t make it, you’ll be recorded as DNS in the race results.

Running

Description

Get ready to party lakeside!  This looped course will have you coming through the cheer zone every 1.35 miles.  Aid stations and bathrooms every 1.35 miles? Heck, yes! We'll have plenty of sugary and salty calories and hydration to keep you going. Oh yeah, the actual running/walking part of the course. It's mixed paved and single track dirt trails that wind through the woods to the hilltop overlooking Lake Vian.  We have a 4 Miler, Half Marathon, Marathon, 50k, 50 Miler, and 100k.  How hilly is Hilltop? About 100 feet of elevation gain per mile. So finishing any of the distances is a big deal.  That's why we have finisher medals for all who complete at least 4 miles.  We're also doing Top 3 Overall Human awards for each distance.  We even allow for drop downs to shorter distance. However, if you drop down, you no longer qualify for Top 3 Overall Human awards. Register by February 14 (Valentine's Day) for a guaranteed shirt.

Arnold Begay will be taking pictures at the 2024 event. They’re available for FREE download a few days after the event. Check out the 2023 photos and 2022 photos.

Hilltop does not happen without volunteers. Volunteers applied for grant money to build the trails. Volunteers have put on the training runs leading up to this event. We need volunteers. We have everything from helping with setup, to packet pickup and course marshaling. We would love to have you as part of our team. Sign up today as a volunteer for Lake Vian Hilltop Run by clicking on the Volunteer tab above.

Time: 12:00 pm
Location: 321 W Market St Derby, KS US 67037
Running

Description

The 32nd annual Not 4 Wimps trail run is ready & waiting for  you.  We will park, start and finish at the Warren Riverview Park. The only indoor restroom facilities available will be just outside the lodge entrance as the indoor facility is currently closed for maintenance & repairs.  Capacity of this year's event is limited to 200 so please sign-up early.  We’re bringing back chip timing with The Timer Guys. Bottled water will be provided at multiple distances on the course beginning at 3 miles.  Trash cans will be available immediately beyond the water stations for empty bottles as well as nutrition packaging etc. to help maintain clean trails.    The course will be well marked for each distance with all 3 distances sharing the same basic course. Our job is to make sure the course is everything that you've come to expect, your job is to bring on the fun. . .  and smile - even when it hurts!

"No Frills" Race

Bottled water will be provided post-event, but your on your own for food.   Feel free to bring your own goodies (toasted marshmallows are highly recommended) to share at the fire-pit as you cheer your friends through the finish-line.  Friends and family are welcome and encouraged to hang-out at the park - the Lodge balcony provides a great vantage point.

This is a timed course that is marked well, but it is still a trail course!  If you don't see any course markings, you are going the wrong way!   If you are not leading the pack and you come across a spider web, you’re going the wrong way!  If you get lost and tack on some extra mileage, well then you got some extra bang for your buck!  You're not going to get an age group medal, or a finishers medal, or a pretty shirt with this race.  When you get done, we have some awesome giveaways to go along with the pride of knowing that you didn't wimp out and take the shortcut back.  Feel free to also brag to your friends that you finished a challenging race in the middle of February, while everyone else is still in hibernation mode, or stuck on a treadmill wishing for some new scenery!   This race is a bargain, and we want to keep it that way!

Packet pickup will start at 11:00 am at the outdoor pavilion.

If you want to bring some cookies or anything special to share, please feel free to do so!

CREW INFO

PACERS & CREW & DOGS.
The spirit and concept of the timed loop run is for it to be solo. That is definitely part of the challenge of this event. Therefore, pacers will NOT be allowed for the 6 and 12 hour events. (24 hour entrants can use a pacer after 12pm if they wish. Just one pacer at a time with each runner, please.) Tents and small pop-up tents and canopies ARE allowed. Dogs will NOT be allowed to accompany any runners on the course. Any dog with your crew needs to be on a leash at all times and not in the aid station area, please.

DROP BAGS

You will have incredible INDOOR access to a drop bag shortly after the start/finish area. You can pack as much stuff in your drop bag or bags as you want for this event as there will be plenty of space! You're welcome to leave it outdoors right off the course, or indoors.

CHIP TIMING

BIB CHIP TIMING INSTRUCTIONS will be released prior to race day. The MyLaps BibTag chip timing system will be used for the KUS 6/12/24 Hour Run. Your race bib is also your chip for timing purposes. Please do not bend or remove the timing chip from the back of the bib number. Since you will get your bib on race day/night, it is very important that you wear your bib as you start the race. It is also very important for your number to be on the front and visible at the finish line, so please attach it to the outside of any clothing. **IMPORTANT!** You DO need to cross the timing mat at 6:00pm, 6:00am or 7:00am at the start of the first lap. Once you have completed either your 6-hour or 12-hour event, please remove your bib and place it inside your vehicle to prevent it from inadvertently calculating additional laps.

No credit or refund can be given for runners transferring to a lower distance race. You can also make an "event change" on ultrasignup and change the distance yourself; in the event you upgrade the distance it will generate a code and prompt you to re-register for the new distance.
