Go Green Leprechaun Run 10K and 2 Mile

Description

81K FITNESS CHALLENGE - February 16 to March 16, 2024
2 MILE and 10K LEPRECHAUN RUN - March 16, 2024

Are you ready for a new fitness goal? In the month leading up to our annual Leprechaun Run, we want to offer a fitness challenge to kick-start your 2024 fitness goals and get you in peak shape to Go Green on March 16!

We think 81k is a nice target number. Dyck Arboretum of the Plains was founded in 1981 and Hesston is located on Highway 81. Eighty-one kilometers in 30 days amounts to 2.7 km/day (equal to 1.7 miles/day and 12 miles per week).

Do you want to do more? Set your sights higher and make it 81 miles. Approximately 6,100 walking steps/day would help you meet that challenge. If you can get into 10K running shape by February, running three 10Ks (6.2 miles each) per week would about get you to 81 miles.
Track your progress on our distance leader board to see how others are faring along with you. Plan to READY, SET, GO 81 in the new year - you can do it!

Description

Get ready to party lakeside!  This looped course will have you coming through the cheer zone every 1.35 miles.  Aid stations and bathrooms every 1.35 miles? Heck, yes! We'll have plenty of sugary and salty calories and hydration to keep you going. Oh yeah, the actual running/walking part of the course. It's mixed paved and single track dirt trails that wind through the woods to the hilltop overlooking Lake Vian.  We have a 4 Miler, Half Marathon, Marathon, 50k, 50 Miler, and 100k.  How hilly is Hilltop? About 100 feet of elevation gain per mile. So finishing any of the distances is a big deal.  That's why we have finisher medals for all who complete at least 4 miles.  We're also doing Top 3 Overall Human awards for each distance.  We even allow for drop downs to shorter distance. However, if you drop down, you no longer qualify for Top 3 Overall Human awards. Register by February 14 (Valentine's Day) for a guaranteed shirt.

Arnold Begay will be taking pictures at the 2024 event. They’re available for FREE download a few days after the event. Check out the 2023 photos and 2022 photos.

Hilltop does not happen without volunteers. Volunteers applied for grant money to build the trails. Volunteers have put on the training runs leading up to this event. We need volunteers. We have everything from helping with setup, to packet pickup and course marshaling. We would love to have you as part of our team. Sign up today as a volunteer for Lake Vian Hilltop Run by clicking on the Volunteer tab above.

Not 4 Wimps 10K, 10 Mile, and Half Marathon

Date: February 18, 2024
Time: 12:00 pm
Location: 321 W Market St Derby, KS US 67037
Running

Description

The 32nd annual Not 4 Wimps trail run is ready & waiting for  you.  We will park, start and finish at the Warren Riverview Park. The only indoor restroom facilities available will be just outside the lodge entrance as the indoor facility is currently closed for maintenance & repairs.  Capacity of this year's event is limited to 200 so please sign-up early.  We’re bringing back chip timing with The Timer Guys. Bottled water will be provided at multiple distances on the course beginning at 3 miles.  Trash cans will be available immediately beyond the water stations for empty bottles as well as nutrition packaging etc. to help maintain clean trails.    The course will be well marked for each distance with all 3 distances sharing the same basic course. Our job is to make sure the course is everything that you've come to expect, your job is to bring on the fun. . .  and smile - even when it hurts!

"No Frills" Race

Bottled water will be provided post-event, but your on your own for food.   Feel free to bring your own goodies (toasted marshmallows are highly recommended) to share at the fire-pit as you cheer your friends through the finish-line.  Friends and family are welcome and encouraged to hang-out at the park - the Lodge balcony provides a great vantage point.

This is a timed course that is marked well, but it is still a trail course!  If you don't see any course markings, you are going the wrong way!   If you are not leading the pack and you come across a spider web, you’re going the wrong way!  If you get lost and tack on some extra mileage, well then you got some extra bang for your buck!  You're not going to get an age group medal, or a finishers medal, or a pretty shirt with this race.  When you get done, we have some awesome giveaways to go along with the pride of knowing that you didn't wimp out and take the shortcut back.  Feel free to also brag to your friends that you finished a challenging race in the middle of February, while everyone else is still in hibernation mode, or stuck on a treadmill wishing for some new scenery!   This race is a bargain, and we want to keep it that way!

Packet Pickup

Packet pickup will start at 11:00 am at the outdoor pavilion.

CREW INFO

PACERS & CREW & DOGS.
The spirit and concept of the timed loop run is for it to be solo. That is definitely part of the challenge of this event. Therefore, pacers will NOT be allowed for the 6 and 12 hour events. (24 hour entrants can use a pacer after 12pm if they wish. Just one pacer at a time with each runner, please.) Tents and small pop-up tents and canopies ARE allowed. Dogs will NOT be allowed to accompany any runners on the course. Any dog with your crew needs to be on a leash at all times and not in the aid station area, please.

DROP BAGS

You will have incredible INDOOR access to a drop bag shortly after the start/finish area. You can pack as much stuff in your drop bag or bags as you want for this event as there will be plenty of space! You're welcome to leave it outdoors right off the course, or indoors.

CHIP TIMING

BIB CHIP TIMING INSTRUCTIONS will be released prior to race day. The MyLaps BibTag chip timing system will be used for the KUS 6/12/24 Hour Run. Your race bib is also your chip for timing purposes. Please do not bend or remove the timing chip from the back of the bib number. Since you will get your bib on race day/night, it is very important that you wear your bib as you start the race. It is also very important for your number to be on the front and visible at the finish line, so please attach it to the outside of any clothing. **IMPORTANT!** You DO need to cross the timing mat at 6:00pm, 6:00am or 7:00am at the start of the first lap. Once you have completed either your 6-hour or 12-hour event, please remove your bib and place it inside your vehicle to prevent it from inadvertently calculating additional laps.

JM Collingwood Barn’s ‘Barn Rat Filthy 50 Gravel Race & Tour’

Date: November 4, 2023
Time: 9:00 am
Location: 22002 S Partridge Rd, Pretty Prairie, KS 67570
Cycling

Come join us at the beautiful, historic JM Collingwood Barn for a day of riding the roads around the north fork of the Ninnescah River in southern Reno County!

We are an all-female team organizing this bike event and so proud of this unique property we operate. We hope to bring you a memorable day of exploring new roads, breaking personal bests, meeting new folks, eating a comforting homemade meal afterwards...all in a peaceful setting 3 miles west and 1.5 miles north of Pretty Prairie, Kansas.

The route will take you into the solitude and raw beauty of the Ninnescah River Valley. Think red dirt roads, massive cottonwood trees displaying their golden leaves for the fall season, rolling sand hills, grassland galore, and a great, big wide-open Kansas sky.
The roads in this part of Kansas range from hard pack and loose, small pea-sized sand to some stretches with deeper sand, that changes with rainfall amounts. It is a super fun challenge to find the lines on some of the roads. Flat and fast, red roller hills, some deeper sandy spots that may test your skills (either shift down and spin or dismount cyclocross style and go by foot), and wide open spaces to either cruise at your max speed or a take-it-all-in approach for the tour ride!

Registration fee includes a t-shirt, a weatherproof sticker for your vehicle, bike rack, etc. and a homemade post-ride chili/soup meal (meat and vegetarian options) made by volunteers from the Pretty Prairie Food Pantry Board and melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon rolls from Carolyn's Essenhaus in Arlington.

The top 3 riders of each race will receive a custom award created by talented, local artists. Stayed tuned to our Facebook group page for photos!

We are capping the event this year at 300 people, so keep that in mind as the months go by!

There will be 2 mobile SAGs roving the course, in case of an unexpected mechanical issue. One SAG will be at the 25 mile mark for food and water.

AND, you know how the line goes for the bathroom before the ride with porta potties? Well, hey, we're gonna make that whole ordeal go away with a luxury restroom trailer from Precision Plumbing in Cheney...all the comforts of home with 4 stalls...and hot and cold running water!! It's the little things in life!

To top it off, the largest barn in Kansas built in 1913 will be open to tour...it's a hidden gem and you'll be in awe of its architectural craftsmanship and unique beauty!

Spencer & Rains, a folk music fiddler duo will be sending you off at the starting line and sharing their music with you in the barn loft during your post-ride meal!

A portion of the registration proceeds will go to the Pretty Prairie Food Pantry Building Fund, a local non-profit 501-C(3) dedicated  to providing food and essentials to the community of Pretty Prairie and the surrounding areas.

If you live a good distance from here and wish to arrive the night before, as to not have to drive too far the morning of the ride, there are options for lodging closeby! Listed below are several that we recommend.

CARGILL FREEDOM FEST EXPO
To help celebrate our 20th year we are planning on MANY static displays and demonstrations from our regional military units, branches and service members.  Plenty for family and friends to discover, get hands on and explore!   We will also have many of our Sponsors, Vendors and some great local food on-site for those not competing in events  or providing support.  Visit our Website and our Facebook event page often to find out who is coming!  The Expo closes each year with a very popular event "the Storming of the Bridge"  a WWII bridge clearing re-enactment hosted by the 101st Dog Company WW2 Re-enactment team.

"RECOGNIZE!"
The most important thing we do for this event (and why we hold it) is to honor our Veterans, their families and suport  local organizaitons who serve and support our Veteran Community.  Net proceeds for our events have provided over $100,000  the last nineteen years to the Emporia All Veterans Memorial Park, the 635th /137th Regiment Scholarship Fund for children of Unit Veterans; the USD 252 Honor Flight Program and the Enlisted Association of the Kansas National Guard.
