START & TIME LIMIT:
6:30 AM start; 24-hour time limit. Cutoffs at approximate distances are; 4 hours & 30 minutes at 25K, 10 hours at 50K, 16 hours & 30 minutes at 75K and 24 hours at 101K.
A double out & back on the gorgeous Elk River Hiking Trail, just outside of Independence, KS. Accurately measured forest trail winding through unique limestone bluffs, rock formations & picturesque vistas. Mostly single-track, very rocky, no long hills.
19 Aid Stations; 11 fully-stocked with water, electrolyte drink & snack-type foods, including soup and sandwiches; 8 aid stations water only. Approximate distance between aid stations is 3.5 miles with no distance greater than 4 miles between aid stations.
CHECK-IN (Staging Area):
Race headquarters will be located in the Outlet Channel Group Shelter (north side of the Elk City Lake dam). Packet pick-up will be held from 3-5 PM on Friday evening April 27th, 2018. Immediately followed by a pasta, meatballs & salad dinner. Late packet pick-up Saturday Morning, April 28th, 2018 from 5-6 AM. Map to staging area can be found by clicking the link below:
Breakfast type food will be served to finishers throughout the night and on through the finish of the race Sunday morning.
Personalized, date specific, first overall male & female award plaques AND customized, date specific, belt buckles guaranteed to ALL finishers.
Campsites (with & without electricity) & showers are available near starting line (Army Corps of Engineers/620-336-2741). Motels in Independence are approximately 7 miles away (Independence Chamber of Commerce 620-331-1890).
All entrants are entitled to 2 scrumptious meals…the pre-race pasta dinner on Friday evening & the post-race breakfast throughout Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Entrants meals are included in the cost; additional guests are $10 each for either meal.

There are several different ways to get to the Outlet Channel Shelterhouse (Staging Area) depending upon which direction you are coming from. If you have never been to FlatRock before we highly recommend allowing a little extra drive time, especially if you plan on driving in the morning of the race.

The FlatRock Tripple Crown will once again be held for those runners looking for some real punishment on this legendary course! For those willing and able to finish all three races (WinterRock 25K, Flatrock 50K and the Flatrock 101K) you will receive a special award at the end of your 176K journey that will definitely be worth all of the punishment.
