Scouts BSA Sky Trail Adventure Challenge Description
Beginning at Osage Hills State Park, run 2.3 miles to Scout Camp McClintock, gear up and ascend the 24-foot climbing tower, zipline across Sand Creek, mostly run (slowing down to cross the suspension bridge!) another 0.5 miles to then kayak 0.75 miles of the creek (out and back), and return on the trail to Osage Hills State Park (2.6-mile run from the creek).

Sky Trail
Our name was inspired by, and with help from, the Osage Nation whose history is in this land. A unique portion of this journey takes you above the trees to beautiful views, leading to the selection of the Osage word meaning both sky and upper world.

Cherokee Area Council Scouts BSA
For 114 years in Northeast Oklahoma, Scouting has been helping youth build self-confidence and develop academic, ethical, leadership, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. Your entrance fees help provide powerful programming throughout six counties in Oklahoma. Visit https://cherokeebsa.org for more information!

Additional Information
Osage Hills Stage Park charges $10 daily for parking. Reserve in advance at https://www.premiumparking.com/p4621(or buy an annual pass and park at any of the lovely parks around Oklahoma!)

Safety is always our top priority. Please be patient with our certified volunteers and staff who are ensuring your safety with proper equipment at the climbing tower and kayaks. This race will be for any adult (18 and over). We’re keeping our entry numbers low so everyone can have an enjoyable experience, and we will stagger the start times as we know donning safety equipment takes time. As we have no proper climbing equipment for our furrier friends, dogs will not be allowed to participate in this event.

Packet pickup will begin at 7am at the Bike Trails entrance in Osage Hills State Park on the morning of the event; the first group will start at 8 am.
Entry includes a long-sleeve, moisture-wicking technical shirt. Our finisher “medals” are Ugly Mugz BSA Camp mugs. An adult Scout volunteer will be onsite with our branding irons, so you can choose a Scout-related design to brand on the mug! Since this is a small group, we will have commemorative awards for the first place competitor in each gender category.

Available for purchase from our vendor friends:
Scissortail Brewery will have kegs of craft beer to fill your newly earned camp mug!

Running

The 7th Annual Road Home features two events.  First is our Fitness Challenge that happened on May 20-29, 2023.  This virtual event features stories of fallen US military Heroes.  Each day of the challenge, participants will receive an email with the story of the Hero of the day, written exercise instructions, and three exercise videos.  We have tailored the exercises to meet the needs of beginners through advanced participants. The exercises use little to no additional equipment.

Second is our 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on September 16, 2023.  The event will take place at Sedgwick County Park.  The 5K is a timed race.  Every participant will receive an awesome t-shirt, a completion Medal and trophies for various age groups and overall winners.

Large flags will be available for you to carry you cross the finish line!

Passageways Living Center is designed to help our veterans with a hand-up, not a hand-out. We provide a warm and safe environment for them to live and accomplish their goals.  We provide a road map through the maze of VA programs and give them the time they need to work through the system without worrying about where they will sleep or find food. Many of our current heroes have spent months living on the street, unable to get into the programs that would benefit them because they didn’t have the resources they needed.

In our world today, there are Veterans who went away to foreign countries to fight for our freedom only to come home and continue the fight. They fight for a place in society, an identity, a place to call home. No Veteran should ever have to continue their fight after returning to their home soil.

Marathon Course Map

General Course Description

100-mile & 75-mile Start time: 6:00AM. 50-mile Start time 7:AM Runners begin at the Start/Finish and run about an eighth of a mile to the trail head for the blue-blazed trail. Make a left turn onto the blue-blazed trail and follow it a couple hundred yards to the Sanders Mound trail. Runners take a left and do a quick 1.1 mile out-and-back to the top of Sanders Mound. From there runners get back on the blue-blazed trail and head for the Lands End aid station.

From Lands End, take the RED blazed trail for about 1 mile and then connect with the blue-blazed trail. Follow the BLUE trail and after crossing the Park road and it will turn into the white-blazed trail 3.5 miles from Lands End 1 at a point known as Cactus Ridge.

The white-blazed trail will take runners to the West Park Road aid station. From there, leave the trails and follow the signs, flags and ribbons along West Park Road, staying on the grass, to Bunker Hill. This is the Goodwin Loop. Complete the 2.5-mile Goodwin Loop, which includes a traverse of Bunker Hill, and return to the West Park Road aid station. Runners then continue on the white-blazed trail back to the Lands End aid station.

Leaving Lands End, continue on the white-blazed trail back to the Start/Finish aid station. This completes one loop of the course.

Big Loop: At the Start/Finish aid station, runners will have completed 25 miles (26.2 for marathoners)—what we call the “Big Loop.” Hundred-milers repeat the Big Loop three more times, 75-milers two more times, and 50-milers one more time.

When the trails cross: The white-blazed trail and the blue-blazed trail cross at several points on the course. The crossings will be heavily marked and signed, but it is the runner's responsibility to read and heed the markers, signs, and white and blue blazes to stay on course.

Marathon: Start time 8:00AM - runners will follow the same course as the 50, 75, and 100-mile runners, but they will run an additional 1.2 miles at the beginning of the race.

Aid Stations

The Hawk is a fully-staffed race with three aid stations, manned by experienced UltraRunners. The usual food and drink, with Tailwind and Honey Stinger products will be available at each of the aid stations. Aid stations usually offer a mix of vegan/vegetarian/omnivore options, including hot food and soups in the overnight hours. Aid station protocols will follow guidance from local health authorities and other safety precautions as necessary to protect the runners and our volunteers. Following are the locations and distances runners will hit aid stations as they traverse the 25-mile course (26.2 for marathoners).

• Lands End: 4.5 miles – no crew access, drop bags
• West Park Road: 10.5 and 13 miles – crew access, drop bags
• Lands End: 18.5 miles – no crew access, drop bags
• Start/Finish: 25 miles – crew access, drop bags

Cut Offs

CUT OFFS
The 100, 75, and 50-mile races have a Sunday 10:00am cut off for runners leaving the West Park Road aid station, after completing the Bunker Hill/Goodwin loop. This is at mile 88 for the 100-mile runners and mile 38 for the 50-mile runners.
The cut off for Lands End aid Station is Sunday 12pm, noon. This is at mile 93.5 for the 100-mile runners, 68.5 for the 75-mile runners, and 43.5 for the 50-mile runners.

To stay in the race, you must have left the aid station by the above cut off times. Volunteers will breakdown the aid station at that time, and depart. Runners continuing on their own accord past the cutoffs, and not arriving at the Start/Finish on or before the 2pm cutoff, will not be eligible for the finisher awards.

Deferment Policy

Seeing you cross the finish line is the reason we host this race. If you’ve signed up for one of the events, but are unable to safely participate in the Hawk race, runners have several options. Runners can make any necessary changes to their sign-up through Ultrasignup. Refunds are not available. We would ask that any runners making changes to their registration distance or status please send us a message through ultrasignup to make sure we are aware of the change.

CHANGING DISTANCE PRIOR TO THE RACE
Runners may contact the Race Director and transfer to a lower or a higher distance on or before August 21st. In the event a runner transfers to a higher distance, a pro rata charge will apply. No credit or refund can be given for runners transferring to a lower distance race. Runners can also "EDIT" registration on ultrasignup and change the distance; in the event you upgrade the distance the system will generate a code and prompt you to re-register for the new distance. If a race distance is SOLD OUT, you will not be able to change to the sold out distance.

The Hawk does not allow refunds. Runner cannot modify, make copies or other reproductions/replications of your number or bib for any purpose (or allow another to do so); and/or participate with an unofficial race number or bib (i.e., a number or bib that was not assigned to you by the Race Director).
Attempting to do any of the foregoing is prohibited and any person found violating these rules will be subject to penalties, including but not limited to disqualification and suspension from subsequent Hawk Hundred events.

DROPPING DISTANCE ON RACE DAY
Hundred milers who drop at mile 50 may receive a 50-mile finisher award, if available. YOU MUST DROP AT MILE 50, IF YOU CONTINUE PAST MILE 50 AND DROP LATER YOU WILL BE RECORDED AS A DNF FOR THE 100 MILE RACE. Runners dropping into the 50-mile distance from the 100-mile are not eligible for 50-mile 1st, 2nd or 3rd place awards. Hundred-mile and 50-mile runners may NOT drop to the marathon and will be recorded as a DNF in the race results.

DEFERRAL
Runners may defer their race entries to the following year, by notifying the Race Director on or before August 21st. The race Deferral is good for one year only. Requests for deferral must be submitted in writing to the Race Director; given the press of other preparations, runners should make sure their request has been confirmed. Deferring runners will be emailed a coupon code to use when the next year's registration opens. If a waitlist is activated in the distance, runners holding deferral coupon codes who have not already registered will be placed on the waiting list in the order of their registration.

DID NOT START
If you can’t attend, and haven’t deferred, please let the Race Directors know so your name can be removed from the starters list. You also have the option to remove yourself from the race on Ultrasignup. If you don’t show up, and don’t let us know in advance that you can’t make it, you’ll be recorded as DNS in the race results.

RACE CANCELLATION OR POSTPONEMENT
In the event the race should be postponed or canceled for reasons beyond the control of the Lawrence Trail Hawks (Pandemic, inclement or unsafe weather conditions; local, state or national emergency), refunds will NOT be made, but race packets, including race shirts, will be available at a location to be determined or possibly, though but not guaranteed, by mail.

ALTERNATE COURSE

Your participation this year helps to support advocacy services for adult survivors of trafficking and exploitation, education for youth in middle and high schools through our trafficking awareness curriculum and film, resources for professionals and survivors, and training for industries, direct service professionals, educators, volunteers, and the community.

We're excited to invest the funds from this year's event into the Not Alone: Exploitation Awareness educational programming, advocacy services, and Fresh Start bags provided by ICT S.O.S. to the community.

Deferment Policy

Deferment Policy

CHANGING DISTANCE PRIOR TO THE RACE
Runners may make an "event change" on Ultrasignup and change the distance yourself; in the event you upgrade the distance it will generate a code and prompt you to re-register for the new distance. In the event a runner transfers to a higher distance, a pro rata charge will apply. No credit or refund can be given for runners transferring to a lower distance race. You can also contact one of the Race Directors and transfer to a lower or a higher distance. The Night Hawk does not allow runners to transfer entries to other participants.

DROPPING DISTANCE ON RACE DAY
Racers who drop from 50K or 20M to the 20M or 10M will receive a race appropriate finisher award, if available. However, they are not eligible for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place awards.

DEFERRAL
Runners may defer their race entries to the following year, by notifying the Race Directors on or before June 5th. The race deferral is good for one year only. Requests for deferral must be submitted in writing to the Race Directors and runners should make sure their request has been confirmed. The deferral code must be obtained from the Race Directors and used within the first 45 days of the next year’s race registration.

DNS, Alternate Course, and Cancellation

DID NOT START

If you can’t attend, and haven’t deferred, please let the Race Directors know as soon as possible before the start of the race, so your name can be removed from the starters list. You also have the option to remove yourself from the race on Ultrasignup. If you don’t show up and don’t let us know in advance that you can’t make it, you’ll be recorded as DNS in the race results.

RACE CANCELLATION OR POSTPONEMENT

We want this race to happen as much as you do so we will do everything in our power to make it happen. However, in the event the race should be postponed or canceled for reasons beyond the control of the Lawrence Trail Hawks (inclement or unsafe weather conditions; local, state or national emergency), refunds will NOT be made. Race packets will be available at a location to be determined or possibly, but not guaranteed, by mail.

ALTERNATE COURSE

If local authorities, Clinton State Park and the Kansas Trails Council trail steward, deem the trails unsafe for runners or vulnerable to damage due to muddy conditions, an alternative course will be provided by the Lawrence Trail Hawks Race Directors, pending approval by Clinton State Park and the Kansas Trails Council Trail Steward.
