2021 Application
Planning for the 43rd running of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is underway with the goal of returning to the streets of Chicago on Sunday, October 10, 2021.
Event organizers are working closely with the City of Chicago, including the Chicago Department of Public Health, to safely produce a race weekend experience for event attendees and the Chicago community. Preparations for the October 2021 race will align with Chicago’s re-opening framework, including strict adherence to local and state coronavirus guidelines.
2021 Guaranteed and Non-Guaranteed Application Window
The 2021 Bank of America Chicago Marathon guaranteed and non-guaranteed entry application window closed at 2 p.m. (Central Time) on Thursday, February 18, 2021. Individuals who are interested in participating in the 2021 Chicago Marathon can secure an entry through one of the limited guaranteed entry opportunities still available. In order to gain access to an available guaranteed entry, applicants must agree to the terms of the entry or qualify for the entry.
The 2021 Bank of America Chicago Marathon American Development Program reached capacity on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. The application is now closed.
Non-guaranteed entry drawing
Non-guaranteed entry applicants for the 2021 Bank of America Chicago Marathon will be notified of their selection on Thursday, March 25. Applicants will be selected from the full pool of non-guaranteed entry applications. Prior to the drawing, the event will remove all duplicate applications.
Applicants will be notified via email of their entry status on Thursday, March 25. If an applicant receives an entry through the drawing, the entry fee is automatically processed.
Individuals who applied for, but do not receive an entry through the drawing, may still register by opting to run for select official charities or tour groups.
Registration fee
- U.S. residents (those who live in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or other U.S. territories): $205 (USD)*
- Non-U.S. residents: $230 (USD)
Applicants must provide credit card information as a part of the application process. The entry fee is processed automatically when an application is approved or selected through the drawing.
When completing the application please use a credit card that has an expiration date of April 2021 or later.
* A processing fee is applied to all entry fees.
Cancellation (by you or by us)

Athletes with Disabilities Program

Event requirements
- Participants must be 16 years or older on race day.
- Participants 16-17 years of age must have permission from their parent or legal guardian permitting them to participate in the race. This permission is given during the application process.
- The Bank of America Chicago Marathon requires that participants be able to complete the 26.2-mile distance in six hours and 30 minutes (6:30:59). The marathon course will reopen for public use on a rolling schedule based on this time limit.
- The sale and/or transfer of race entries/bib numbers is strictly prohibited.
- All registration fees and ancillary purchases are nonrefundable.
- All participants are required to pick up their own participant packet (bib number and timing device) at the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo during the scheduled hours of operation. Additional information about the 2021 Abbott Health & Fitness Expo will be available in the coming months.
- All participants are required to show a government-issued photo ID upon picking up their own participant packet.
- All participants acknowledge the inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists and is beyond the control of Event Organizers. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.
- All participants must be familiar with and abide by the event rules.
